Arctic Winter Games International Committee
The Arctic Winter Games formally began with the registration of the Arctic Winter Games Corporation under the Canada Corporations Act on January 18, 1968. In 1992 the Arctic Winter Games Corporation changed its name to the Arctic Winter Games International Committee to eliminate confusion with other Games organizations and to reflect the increasing international flavor of the Games.
ROLE
The Committee supervises the overall development and implementation of the Games. some of its' functions are to:
- act as guardian and interpreter of the general philosophy, policies and rules of the Games
- invite and review bids from communities wanting to host the Games
- select sports for each set of Games and prepare the technical package of rules, categories, events, team composition, medals to be awarded, and competition format
- enter into formal agreements with Host communities which stipulate the terms under which the Games are awarded
- oversee the preparations of a Host Society for the Games
- collaborate with the Contingent Chef’s de Mission to ensure the best possible participant experience
As stewards of the Arctic Winter Games the International Committee promotes the values symbolized by the three interlocking rings of the Arctic Winter Games logo:
- athletic competition
- cultural exhibition and,
- social inter-change
The International Committee provides leadership through the development of policy and overseeing the promotion and marketing of the Games. The Arctic Winter Games International Committee assists the jurisdictions to build effective partnerships to address the needs of host communities, participants and Games sponsors.
