The Arctic Winter Games brings our circumpolar family together and strives to involve as many participants as possible either in the Games themselves or in the team selection trials. The achievement of individual excellence in athletics, with a favourable result from competition, is not a primary objective of the Arctic Winter Games. Instead, the fundamental purpose of the Games is to encourage maximum participation by all cultures in a broad range of athletic activity. Increasing level of skill is expected to result from, rather than be, the primary driver of participation.
The Arctic Winter Games formally began with the registration of the Arctic Winter Games Corporation under the Canada Corporations Act on January 18, 1968. In 1992 the Arctic Winter Games Corporation changed its name to the Arctic Winter Games International Committee to eliminate confusion with other Games organizations and to reflect the increasing international flavor of the Games.
The Corporate Sponsor Honour Roll recognizes the private sector corporations that continue to contribute $20,000.00 or more in more than one jurisidiction and in more than two Arctic Winter Games.
A Legacy Sponsor is an International Corporate Honour Roll Sponsor who has sponsored in more than five Arctic Winter Games and has contributed more than $350,000.00 in support at any Games.
Arctic Winter Games would not be possible without the financial support provided to Host Societies and Participating Teams by the participating Governments.
